GREENSBURG — A strong field will compete at Totteridge Golf Course Thursday in hopes of qualifying for the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

Three qualifying spots, as well as two alternate positions, will be up for grabs in the 18-hole stroke play competition.

78 players are set to compete, including numerous players from Western Pennsylvania.

Three members of the WPGA’s 2025 Williamson Cup team will compete Thursday, including Carson Kittsley, Michael Quallich and Ty Hartman.

A year ago, Kittsley placed second behind current North Carolina freshman Mac Edwards in the qualifying event, also held at Totteridge.

Kittsley and Quallich will be joined by fellow Team Pennsylvania members Nico Ward, Bailey Donahue and Jack Sacriponte in the field.

Ravi Desai, who along with Kittsley is a Penn State recruit, will tee off at 8:50 a.m. 2024 WPGA Boys champion Aaron Didjunas will begin his round at 8:30 a.m.

Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. with players teeing off of the first and 10th tees. The final starting time will be 10:30 a.m.

The 78th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be contested at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania from July 20-25.

The WPGA has been well represented in the U.S. Junior Amateur over the years, including a historic win in the event in 1965, when Jim Masserio became the first public course player to win the prestigious competition.

Some of the current top names in golf have won the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, including Scottie Scheffler (2013), Jordan Speith (2009 and 2011), Will Zalatoris (2014) and Min Woo Lee (2016).

Tiger Woods claimed the competition a record three times. Only he and Speith won the event more than once.
